I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Joe Trippi, Senior Advisor to The Lincoln Project, a veteran Democratic strategist, and host of That Trippi Show. We tackled an urgent and critical topic: the overwhelming flood of right-wing disinformation dominating the political and cultural landscape.
Joe and I discussed how, as a pro-democracy movement, we’ve largely ceded the digital and narrative space to the radical right. While MAGA operates as a movement—with a 24/7 propaganda machine that relentlessly churns out content across platforms—the Democratic Party often limits its efforts to the traditional campaign cycle. Fundraising ramps up four months before an election, followed by assembling ground games, door-knocking efforts, and legacy media buys. Meanwhile, the radical right is building its base year-round through a coordinated, multi-platform strategy that keeps its messaging front and center.
Joe made it clear: this imbalance isn’t sustainable if we want to counteract the GOP and the MAGA movement effectively. Matching their energy isn’t just about ramping up during election years—it’s about committing to a long-term, relentless effort to inform, persuade, and mobilize.
We need to step up. This means investing in alternative platforms, supporting independent creators, and building a progressive ecosystem that engages voters 24/7. The battle for democracy is ongoing, and we can’t afford to let up.
